It’s not hard to make a Unique, handcrafted Christmas ornament. Most dry oglers have no idea what to do to get in the holiday spirit and get their hands into all of those wonderful and creative things around the house.
Think about what you have around your house in your craft room. What is the theme of the season? Have you decided on an overall theme for the rest of your decorations? Did you buy any new ornaments for this year? What other things are in and around your house that could possibly go in an ornament? Like a new winter bracelet to hang on your wrist; or a sweet smelling potpourri to decorate the top of your chest?
Once you have gathered all of the possibilities, then you can formulate an overall plan. Start by putting out a few of your basic elements – like the Christmas balls, or candles or some other materials. Then decide where you are going to put each of your ornaments. Are they going under the tree; on the mantle; or perhaps put on a side table? Draw designs yourself or look around the internet to find the perfect ones for your home.
If the majority of your decorations came from a specialty store like a craft store or a party store, then you should take the extra time to clean them properly so that they will last much longer and be easier to take care of. You can even wrap the tree with the ornaments once they are done for a more holiday look in your home. Try to pick up the ornaments that are individually packaged so that they won’t break. Once you have an idea of the overall look you want for your home, you can then start to be creative with the type of ball, bead, ribbon or whatever decorative trinkets you are going to use.
Once you have a plan for your seasonally chosen warmth, you can start to put those together…but don’t try to get it all done all at once. Pick a few days to sew what you have decided on and then rest on a night or so to get the finishing touches on. Use a sharp tool to cut off all the extra ends, or use a sharpened pencil and secure your ends with a large safety pin or a blunt needle and then communicate all of your finished pieces through email and FacebookComplete the weaving process as directed by the instructions. These pieces can then be mounted to a skein for storage or displayed.
Once you have put all of your pieces together, it’s time to give the final touch a pre-rollment polish. It’s possible that when you put the final touches on your personalized Christmas ornaments, some of them might end up having packaging marks or stains. You will show up proud to have designed pieces that have been hand drawn satin crinkled and then painted for additional festive and holiday pizzazz
With a little patience, you can have a beautiful hand made gift that will last for years to come, continue to give and be treasured by those that admire. If you are new to this craft and do not know where to start, look around on the internet for the various guidelines and tutorials on what to do with each individual ornament. There are plenty of ideas. Also, remember that it’s not just about the beauty of the finished project, it’s the time and patience you put into making the ornament that makes it intended.
Enjoy creating beautiful and individual items for the holiday season and then share all of your unique ideas that will elevate you to the next level of decorating for the Christmas season. Let others know how yours truly feels!
